WD harddriver part need.

September 24th, 2014, 15:15

My WD external harddrive died on me and I sent harddrive to data recovery company.
They told me, in order to recover data from this failed harddrive, I need find exact same model of harddrive so they can use for part (to save money).
I wonder anyone has following harddrive that I can buy from.

Here is harddriver information:

Model: WD5000AAVS - 00ZTB0
DCM: HHRCHTJMHB

They said both Model number and DCM number must match.
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,

I think you need to find another "data recovery" company.

Does seem a bit suspect, I must admit.

Unless the client is on a particularly tight budget and the few $$ saved on a cheap donor drive (as opposed to the DR company sourcing from a broker) allows the job to fall into budget.

Alternatively, the "Data recovery" company have found serious media damage on the drive and don't want to spend their own money on parts!

To me, this is a relatively easy to find drive and DCM is irrelevant if you know what you're doing. Even more if they asked you to match DCM entirely
It's like asking you to match the s/n or the WWN. It just makes no sense.

Even if they found serious damage on the drive and don't want to risk their own spare parts, guidance as to what should match on the donor drive is wrong.

Have they opened the drive?

I suggest you contact http://www.datasaversllc.com/ (ask for Jon) and have your drive evaluated properly. They're in Atlanta.

Good luck.

Hi there ytkim1,
I know that your files are important to you and at the same time you don't want to spend a bunch of money to get them. However, it is very important to trust the people, who are dealing with your HDD. I'd say – Why don't you choose one of the WD Data Recovery partners - http://support.wdc.com/recovery/index.asp?lang=en. May be just call them for a second opinion.
Hope this helps,
