DiamontMax Plus 9 80GB SATA Hard Disk

Hi All,
first time i am facing this kind of issue that DiamontMax Plus 9 80GB SATA Hard Disk is not Spinning.like Faulty PCB.i confirmed PCB is working well by Reverse test.then usually as all know that can be Motor Stuck.this case it is not.platter is spinning manually very free.motor coil also good as per compare with same.anybody have any suspecting points to know that before i am going to remove Head for confirming any physical issue.

There is an SPSNS test point (SPindle current SeNSe) below the SDRAM. This voltage is proportional to the spindle current. The array of five 1R00 resistors has an equivalent resistance of 0.2 ohms. If you measure 0.2V at this point, say, then the spindle current will be 1A (I = V/R).

Isolate the PCB from the preamp contacts. Should the motor spin up, that's a short circuit in the preamp, if not - motor issues.

Just be sure to not remove the platter on this drive. Despite most likely it's a single-platter drive (can be two though, need to see the s/n to tell for sure), it will be quite a problem to realign everything back and make the drive start reading.

yes i know that..i will never remove platter.even Head, no any supporting professional tool for this model with me for single platter right side arm.
that also i tried (isolated Head Terminal)still motor don't want spin up.

i almost forget my work on maxtor hdd but i remember some time motor fault appear.. best way to get data is to swap the platter into good donor drive.. Maxtor is easy to be swap but must be the same family.

The photos of your lab would suggest that you have some very expensive equipment. A quick check with an oscilloscope should tell you whether anything is happening at the motor. You wouldn't need a LeCroy -- an ordinary 20MHz scope should suffice. In fact you are very fortunate in that your PCB has all the test points clearly marked. Moreover, the datasheet for the motor controller is freely available on the Internet.

motor windings is ok coil resistance,mechanically no jam.even we have some our own tricks to try motor conditions with PWM motor Control Board external.unfortunately this universal PWM motor Control Board is not supporting to this motor.but still i am in experiment of this case..if found any progress will share to all.

If PCB was fried , it happens. Seen a lot on N40P, less on Calypso but happens. Also be extra sure about preamp sanity.

In this case (DM9) moving the pack to another chassis is simple and safe (and quicker) with standard platter pack removal tools.
