Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hello!
I've got a 500GB Samsung HD502HJ with burned transil 6V8A,
(visually transil looks ok, but was shorted - tested by multimeter).
I have changed broken transil and tried to run HDD - nothing happened - no spin,
so I swapped ROM to donor PCB, also nothing happened.
In my opinion the ROM is dead.
Is there any possibility to find donor PCB with the same content of ROM?

Did you check the zero-ohm resistor on the original PCB?
http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/HDD/HD103SJ_TVS_2.jpgDo you have any way of reading the ROM? Perhaps it was damaged during the transfer.

zero - ohm resistor is OK - conducts.
ROM was transferred under temp. control on BGA rework station.
ROM from donor PCB was soldered back, donor drive is still alive.
I will try to read ROM in some programmer.

Does the donor PCB with donor ROM spin up the patient HDD?
Can you get a terminal log?

Yes it does, patient HDD spin up with donor PCB + donor ROM.

Problem solved
I found donor with compatible ROM - only PCB swap.
