Fujitsu - MHY2160BH - How to remove or reset ATA Password

November 8th, 2014, 17:39

Hi All,

Friend is asking me to help recover her data from an old hard disk. When I put the hard disk into an external USB caddy it won't show up in windows and if I put the hard disk into the computer it asks for a user password which doesn't seem to work with the one she set it with all those years ago!

I've downloaded MHDD and burnt it to CD. I've booted from the CD and it picks up the hard disk. The disk is shown as being locked with an ATA password and security set as high.

I've tried using "UNLOCK" and tried to use her password for both master and user but it's not working at all and gives a FAIL error. I've also tried using 32 spaces as the master as I've heard this is sometimes the default master for a Fujitsu HDD but this didn't work either.

Can anyone help? I'm fairly strong technically but don't have any experience with this sort of thing so any hints or guidance would be very welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Try the drive in a laptop. Otherwise convert the password to keyboard scan codes (make).
