I have a Seagate with 8 heads. 7 good 1 bad. I have tried all sorts of combinations to read from the last head, but the only thing that get the last head reading again when it reaches a bad sector is to repower the drive. Technically, why does this work when everything else fails?? Seems very stressful on the drive.

Don't get this particular error message, but its great reading and much appreciate the link. Tried to register on HDD Oracle a few times but never got a response (even by PM on this forum). Probably upset the wrong people LOL... Its a shame as HDD Guru has a bad reputation and being relatively new to DR I can see why. HDD Oracle seems to have very detailed responses to questions and is targeted towards people who want to learn. Still, I will accept help from any source as i am keen to learn.
