ST3000NC000 Constellation CS LBA issue

November 13th, 2014, 14:43

Hi all!

I'm working on an ST3000NC000 Constellation CS drive. The heads on it were weak, and I swapped them out with donor heads. After that imaging went fine until the DDI crashed. When I brought the drives back online the LBAs had gone from 5.8 trillion to 8 million.

I'm working with PC3K now to try to get that fixed, and I'm not able to get terminal access on this drive. I don't know if I'm using the wrong settings, or terminal is just locked down or what.

Anyone had any success with this type of issue?

I'll be happy to answer any questions that anyone has on this.

Donor heads are already dead probably.
These drives tend to be problematic and there is a chance that another head swap won't help. It is worth examining each such case carefully, as general advices may be of no use at least.
