Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

The above drive has a blown PCB. Big hole in the motor chip. The board has parallel flash so cannot swap ROM chip. I have a donor board which gives me access to SA, but not data due to the incorrect ROM. The original board does power up, but stays BSY. Is there anyway to get the original ROM from the SA? (don't think there is with this drive family). Guess my only option is to try to get the board to come RDY? Removing TVS chip does not work.

ROM is integral on the I chip. Not possible to do a chip swap.

Flash rom is right in front of you. Pretty easy with adapter and reader.

My error -- you're absolutely right.
Maybe I shouldn't post so late at night!
The ROM is U2.
