Samsung SP0411N PROBLEM

I HAVE RECIEVED samsung SP0411N 40 GB hard disk. Its Detail

1. it is set on 32 gb jumper
2 it gets detected
3. after detecting it gives master/slave fail.
4 if you boot the system you can access the partition's (2) 16:16.

5. if you recover the data it get recovered for 5 month only i.e till may.
after may no data is recoverable (you cant see any file after may. and
client says he is working on files till 22-11-05.

such a strange behavior of hard disk! never seen. what could be the reason.

HI,

if the drive had an OS installed, U chan check OS file access dates. that is if there was XP on it, check pagefile.sys's access date.
I would first clone the drive, disable partitions and scan with for example Getdataback and see the dates.
it will tell U when it was last booted.
BTW the drive might have been set up as a secondary one, with OS running from another HDD.
U may ask the customer if it was the only one and about the OS he/she used.
