It's been my experience that these are almost always a waste of time/resources. Even when we are able to recover some data from drives with platter damage, it's almost never enough to actually get paid.

Mostly agree, nearly all clients aren't interested in a partial recovery and even if they are, they expect a huge discount for an incompete recovery despite the huge amount of work

If they understand (=I make them understand) all they can get is what is actually possible they pay what I ask otherwise everything ends at diag level that is paid upfront and regardless of anything else. Here Usually they understand. So said...
