Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi, Ive been studying Data Recovery knowledge since a while already (with the intent of being a DR professional), but now I wanna go to the next step and start practicing the techniques. So there is a lot of software I will want to test and get familiar with, and my question is: What would be the best Operating systems to use for DR in general. I was thinking about dual boot Windows 7 / Linux distro.
Please let me know what you think, any suggestion is appreciated.
Thanks

2 PCs, one Win one Linux. But this isn't the real question.
as always, right tool for the current job.
what DR tools you own?
general accepted flow from what I can tell is:
software - outsource everything else.
software + Hardware Imager - outsource everything else.
software + Hardware Imager + PC3K - outsource everything else.
after this you should be able to decide for yourself what tools to add as you will have a missing component you know you need, and the experience you have picked up will highlight it.

Thanks for the reply,
Im learning DR at the moment, I only have the most basic things like software and sata/ide to usb adapter.
I will not get the PC3K until I have better knowledge and the investment for it.
Can you tell me more about Hardware Imager please.
I have asked a few questions in some previous posts and read a lot of thread and I am still looking for a hardware tool (budget price, 3K max) for doing thing like data extraction and firmware repair.
I need you guys suggestion, I need to know whats my best option, I dont want to make the wrong purchase and be stuck with something bad.

Try to Google DEEP SPAR. Collect some more money for it.This product is available in Canada.Compare it with other image r too.

@SolidSnake: Also consider
Dolfin Data Lab's DDP 3.0 imager. It incorporates a number of firmware repair utilities. Cost is $3,000 USD so still over your budget. It's geared more to those starting a DR business. The industry standard would be a DeepSpare DDI4. You could get a DDI3 within your budget and the experience would be helpful when you have the funds to upgrade.

Dolphin does not have the facility to disable certain features required for a good imaging.A drive has to report all sort of errors to smart and g list.and this makes any non standard imager weak and puts a heavy load on drive. The sick drive give you limited time before it looses its health and performance.

Actually if you only have $3000 to spend you should buy MRT Pro. It has imaging capabilities (not quite as good as deepspar but still good from what I hear) plus it has the ability to handle basic firmware repairs, program PCB boards, etc.
