HDD powers up, clicks X times and stops spinning

January 29th, 2015, 18:35

Hey guys. Just to not confuse anyone, this is not the same HDD that i posted about on my first thread here in these forums.

This Seagate st31500341as HDD stopped working a few days ago, and even tho the OS (windows) wasnt running from this hard drive, it slowed down the whole system so i had to unplug. It slows down a lot the boot proces and the system in general if i plug it in again. Windows Disk Management or PC BIOS do not see this HDD anymore.

When i start the computer this broken HDD will start spinning, than it will make "tic tac" noises, it will tic tac 22 times (11 tics and 11 tacs) and than it stops spinning. This process takes like 30, 40 seconds from when i power up until it stops spinning.

Even tho it stops spinning, it still heats up as if it would if it was working.

Could anyone pinpoint the problem with this info i gave? Since it does exactly the same thing when i power up, maybe someone can tell what the problem is? Any chance replacing the PCB board would fix this?

Please let me know, thanks a lot!

Click 11 times and spin down = bad beads

NOT DIY :-(

Hey pcimage, you mean bad "head" ? Or "beads" really?

Thanks!

Hey! ;)

With my ST3000DM001 happened the same few days ago. I think it is Heads, if the data is important to you, you should call a PRO for recovery, and should NOT turn it on anymore.

=)
