Realy Broken HDD

I don't know how often such a case comes up, but it is a first for me.

This is a 3 platter Toshiba. The middle platter has broken in pieces, spread all over the place, including on top of the top platter.
The drive was not opened before, and no signs of external damage.

Hi! I guess that was one of the old models with glass platters?
I had one like that once. It rattled just like a childs toy. We opened it for fun just to look at the broken pieces.

I had one like this once and the client tried to tell me that "It just stopped working". Tried to blame me that it was smashed and after a few arguments I finally got him to admit that He'd dropped it from a balcony.

I've seen a few with the top platter smashed (usually kids roughhousing involved) but never the middle platter. I wonder if there was an air bubble in the glass and it finally caved under the rotational force and shattered.

Pretty cool. I don't think that we'll ever see an end to the new and creative ways that drives fail.
