Seagate ST3320820AS head damage

March 28th, 2015, 19:24

I dropped the drive. It stopped booting and started making a clicking noise. I opened it and noted that the head looks damaged.

How do I find a replacement head? How do I find the exact same drive and head? Picture of drive label attached.

I am going to take the risk and do the replacement at home. Any advice appreciated.

It's more trouble than its worth, especially if you have a lot of important stuff in your drive.

Knowing that you will not succeed, what is your "Plan B"?

Given the fact that these drives do not have a parking ramp, but a parking zone on the platters, how did you inspect the heads and decided they are damaged?

My question is also, How do you know heads are damaged?
