Which is The Most Reliable Hard Drive model

April 6th, 2015, 7:46

Hello everybody,
Every HDD brand has its own advantages and weaknesses
According to your experience, which is The Most Reliable Hard Drive model in terms of:
1-HDD life times
2-the simplicity of data recovery if the hdd becomes corrupted
In other words, if anyone us wants to buy an HDD and save his precious data inside which HDD model would be his best choice.
Best Regards.

The "Death Star" was an older model, the more modern ones seem to be OK IMHO.

I would refrain from building a RAID with WD drives ... unless you "fix" them first. That's because they don't handle overvoltages well, if at all, and this means that you will have essentially no redundancy in a PSU failure.

Catastrophic failures in Western Digital PCBs:

For example, an overvoltage on the 5V supply will most likely kill the preamp, requiring expensive professional recovery. Other brands will usually just sustain a shorted 5V TVS diode which can simply be removed.

The most reliable disk is the one that's been backed up.

Seagate acquired Samsung's rotating storage technology. They retained Samsung's 2.5" product line but dumped their 3.5" drives. Why?

I have not way to go back, the HDDs are already bought. Besides, it looks stable just 52°c.

All manufacturers.
All new drives with terabyte and more plates, with new heads - bullshit.
Seagate, as usual, started the first step on the same rake.
