WD USB to SATA compatibility 2060-771737-001

April 7th, 2015, 6:37

Hello,

I try to replace a USB PCB 771737 by a SATA PCB according to http://ts.acelaboratory.com/index.php?/ ... usb-drives I can use either 701692 or 771692

When I see the USB PCB, I can see 2 ROM but the SATA PCB coes have only 1 ROM (see photos)

The USB PCB contain U8 & U12 chip but SATA PCB contain only U12 which is smaller than the U12 of the USB PCB (looks like the U8 chip).

Any solution to make teh replacement work please?

Thanks in advance.

U8 contains the bridge firmware whereas U12 contains the HDD firmware. You only need to bother with U12.

Thank you for your reply.

But if you see the USB and SATA PCB, U12 chip doesn't seem to be the same size!

what is the problem with the disk ?
what tools you have ?

why bother soldering, you can simply read and write ROM content.

If you have access to PC-3000 you can read the ROM through terminal connection on the USB board, then write it to the SATA board.

They are the same size, well the pin specs are the same which is all you need to worry about, they are just different packages.

Thank you very much guys for your help.

I'll try to solder the USB U12 chip directly to the SATA PCB, if it doesn't work, I'll try to read it with PC3000 or a ROM programmer.

I don't get it
If you own (or have access to) those tools, y don't u use them in the first place ?
Why bother to unsolder and resolder.

Hello
I resume this topic because I have a similar case with same USB board :-)

It is on a WD10TMVW-11ZSMS1 and the board is 771737-600

well I have its "donor" SATA board 771692

but reading the 771737-600 ROM I got it as size 512KB while the "donor" 771692 is 256KB

so writing is not obviously allowed

ok, moving the ROM is the solution, but have have you had the same experience?
And so, have you found some 771692 with ROM size 512KB?
If yes, which was it the donor drive model?

I ask that because I don't like to solder de-solder too many times the ROMs from the same board, because sooner or later some lane will detach.

Additionally, as you can see from the attachment, the ROM is the really annoying one to get de-solderd

Thank you

Don't you kindly have any reference for a SATA with 512KB?

Means on which model was it installed

The two I have are both from WD10TPVT and both are 256KB

Thank you
