Thats my 1st post in this community!

I have a little headache about my two hard drives that i got at home.

HTS541075A9E680 Interface SATA 6Gb/s, 5400RPM, 8MB CACHE (750 GB)
HITACHI Travelstar 5K1000 2.5"

ST9500420AS Interface SATA 3Gb/s, 7200RPM, 16MB CACHE (500 GB)
SEAGATE Momentus 7200.4 500420 2.5"

I can't find two reliable tests which of these drivers will be faster.
I can't do accurate tests, since one hdd is with clean w7 install with no stuff on it, and the 2nd one is just overloaded with data.

SEGATE Momentus got more RPM and Cache, but Interface is SATA 3Gb/s
HITAHI Travelstar got less RPM and less Cache, but the interface is 6Gb/s

I found a bit info on the net, where results tells me that HITAHI is the one to go with (faster), but i got a feeling when im using SEGATE my laptop performs faster.

Can anyone clear some pros and cons about that?

If speed is your main concern, why not look for a SSD, which would be much faster than both of those drives ?

It you really need a drive with large storage capacity, did you consider the Seagate's SSHD ?
This are hybrid drives (classical drive + small SSD buffer ~ 8 GB).
For a laptop, this is the mid-range between classical drives and SSD.

Western Digital also produce the WD Black Dual, which is based on a different approach.
Instead of using an SSD buffer to store the most used files, it combines a classical drive and a separate SSD in the same enclosure.

The choice between Seagate's SSHD, WD's Black Dual, a pure SSD or a classical drive should depend on what you want to do and your budget.

My feeling is that amongst the two drives you mentioned, for "real world use", for a laptop, the Seagate's would be slightly faster. But I must admit that I haven't done any test.

But don't forget that parameters others than speed are important, like reliability.

Im thinking about SSD, could anyone tell me which SSD is worth to get?
