Seagate ST2000DM001 Not Detected In Windows or BIOS

Hi, as the title says I have a Seagate ST2000DM001 drive that suddenly stopped working and is no longer detected in Windows or even in the BIOS .
The drive still spins up but that is all, no other noises are emitted from the drive.
I have tried different power and SATA data cables and even tried an external USB adapter but to no avail.
What are my options, if any, to get the drive working again. The data is quite important, but not important enough to warrant the cost of professional data recovery.

I purchased 3 of these drives at the same time just over 2 years ago (P/N-1CH164). One of which failed about a 7 months and was replaced by Seagate, another one reports a high number of reallocated sectors (32) which I have now backed up and it will likely be scrapped and now the 3rd drive is failing to be recognised, with the 2nd and 3rd drives being 6 months out of warranty.
Is this failure rate normal for Seagate, has anyone else experienced similar problems with Seagate drives?

very probably firmware fail.

I'm with eng.mas on this one. DM drives are a nightmare even for professionals with professional tools to recover. You'll be seriously wasting your time trying anything DIY. If the data is important, send it to a pro. If it isn't valuable, just junk it.

Well to be honest the drive at the moment is useless, so I have basically already lost the data because the cost of professional data recovery isn't an option. So the way I see it is, I have got nothing to lose.

Yes I am aware of the costs, I did check a few places before I posted here, I just really can't afford it.

How do I access the terminal log? Do I have to do everything in the link that I posted previously up to the point where it says to enter commands? (I am now aware that this drive isn't a 7200.11)

Hi guys,

Looks like I've got the same problem as OP. Same model, same "not detected in BIOS". Drive spins, head moves at spin up and off, no smell of burning (though haven't removed PCB as yet). No evidence of drive malfunction, just didn't turn on one day.

I note the first diagnosis is "firmware failure". To clarify, does that mean the firmware has corrupted and must be reloaded/upgraded? Is this a realistic thing to do or is the success rate pretty shabby?

Any recommendations on the TTL adapters?

Just to let you know that I am still waiting for a TTL adapter to be delivered, it was apparently dispatched over a week ago now, sorry for the delay.
Whilst I am waiting could you explain how I would access the terminal log once the adapter is up and running.

Nearly two weeks later and I still don't have the adapter, I have requested a refund from the seller and and have ordered one from somewhere else, it should be here by Monday.
Meanwhile, I have got a different problem with an older Seagate drive (really not a fan of Seagate at the moment) but I shall make a new thread.
