Get recordings from my DVR

June 11th, 2015, 12:33

Hi guys.
This is the model of my DVR:

http://www.dahuasecurity.com/products/i ... f-965.html

I want to copy the recordings from the HD of my DVR to my PC/external HD.
I tried to use the option provided by the DVR itself, which was to insert an usb storage and save the recordings in it.
I tried with many devices, (pen drives and external hd, with different file systems), it was taking hours just to copy 20GB. (it's 500GB of data, more or less)

Question: How can i copy the recordings from this HD? (and obviusly, how can i determine the file system?)

English isn't my first language, so please excuse any mistakes

I didn't explain myself well.

As I said i tried with many devices, but the only file system supported is fat32, so i can't use an external HD (1TB).

I removed the HD from the DVR and connected it to my PC, Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 doesn't recognize the HD, but can see in Disk Management. (Disk 2, Unknown, Not Initialized)

My question is: how can I copy the recordings from this HD?

The file system is unknown.

I can try with a linux distro, what do you think?

First of all, extraction speed looks low, indeed. Are you sure the drive isn't failing?
I would suggest you to consider imaging it first. Having a full image leaves you much more possibilities in case of need.

Secondly, modern DVR recorders use their own, proprietary format to store recordings.
Moreover, there's no file system in the traditional meaning of this term.

LG utility will not work for this Dahua.
Linux distro won't be of much use, as it will help to see corresponding partition only (not the videos), where most Dahuas store logs, if I recall correctly.

So the only generally reasonable option is to use the built-in procedure, as you mentioned above. But when it doesn't work for some reason (failed drive, deleted recordings, etc.), all the fun begins.

Another option is to analyze the DVR hard drive contents and develop a custom recovery utility for the particular CCTV system, which would copy the recordings as regular video files. That's what we do when recovering data from failed DVR hard drives.

The same way, as with RAID arrays, I'll be happy to help to recover data from this Dahua DVR remotely.
Please check your PM.

I don't understand what you mean by this. FAT32 can work with a 1TB drive, it's just that you need a non-Microsoft utility to format it.

The specs for your DVR state that it supports a network connection. Have you tried that?

Backup Mode -- USB Device/Network/Internal SATA burner

I didn't know t. I found this:

I can format my HD with that command? [X: /FS: FAT32 (X is the letter of my HD)]

Your transfer rate via the network should be around 10MB/s whereas USB 2.0 should achieve between 20 - 30MB/s. However, if you get the same slow speed via the network as you are now getting via USB, then this would suggest a problem with your drive. You could assess the drive's physical condition with a SMART tool such as CrystalDiskInfo or HD Sentinel.

To answer your other questions, a router would be the way to go for networking, and you should be OK with any of the FAT32 utilities in that article.
