WD My book 4TO windows back up lost everything

July 12th, 2015, 22:50

Hi there

First of all my first language is french. I don't want your eyes to bleed while reading this! :D

A little while ago I bought a new computer and decided to make a Back up from windows. Figured that I had plenty space on my External Hard drive I decided to put it on. The things I did'nt know was it erased all of my stuff. :( I'm not a computer master at all I realise it was a bad move. I had like 2to of stuff accumulated over the years. Most of them I don't really care. But there was a files I thinks it was a rar or was only in a document not event sure. This files is really really important and I just realize I lost it.

I had it on a USB stick before but deleted from it when I bought my HD. My hard drive look like it been formated for the 31go who is used by windows back up. All the space left can't be seen at all. So there's 3TO gone missing. Is it possible that the partition who is not used can be recovered? At least the files I need ? I tried some software found on google but yet not sign of anything. I just see a bunch of weird files who is named like by example "fdfdte*834&r34" And can't open it. Seriously guys i really need your help I'm kinda desesperate. The files was really important and can't be replaced.

So I'd be so grateful if someone could help me!

There's is what I see right now. I can provide more information if needed!

Thanks you

This is not advised. Neither will it do anything to resolve the overwritten file system, it will also introduce you to the problem of the drive encryption.

You may need professional assistance (should be less than $500), but it might be worth trying R-Studio. It is always best to be working off a clone of your drive and make sure that you do not write anything back to your 4TB MyBook until you are 100% sure you have everything recovered.

Can you show us the Partitions window in DMDE (freeware disc editor)?

http://dmde.com/

ISTR that some versions of Windows Backup don't understand 4Kn drives. Your external drive would be configured with a logical sector size of 4096 bytes, so it would fall into this category.
