Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I don´t know if I should be concerned. I am having a 2TB Hitachi drive that is quite loud during normal operation. However there are no signs of malfunction. In fact it works very well. However normal spinning sounds louder than I am used from other hard drives like WD or Samsung.
I think this is my only Hitachi drive so I cannot compare with others. Can you tell me if I should be concerned or if Hitachi is known for being a bit loud.

There are sometimes loud hard drives.
This is not a cause for concern if it normally works.
It is a normal variation in mechanics.
For example, a quiet refrigerator another loud.

An instance of quiet can only choose.
Bring them to the mind, there is not any sense.

If it used to be quieter and now the same drive is getting louder, then I would be concerned.

You can use Windows' Sound Recorder or Audacity and a contact mic to record the sound at various points in time, and compare them to see if it's getting worse. Just be sure to pick the same spot on the drive cover all the time for consistency.
