Suitable donor PCB for external Samsung spinpoint drive 2.5"

Hello,

I have a 1TB Samsung 2.5" Spinpoint Drive taken from an external drive, it is however not a conventional SATA drive when removed and seems to have the SATA > USB controller built into the PCB board and a micro USB3.0 interface:

ST1000LM025
P/N: HN-M101ABB/EX2

It has no power when I plug it in and does not spin up at all, I believe this is probably component failure on the PCB as the connector and lead seem fine. Can someone help me find a suitable donor PCB for this drive so I can recover the data on it?

The PCB Number on the back where the BF-41 number normally is, is:

100725482 00
and below that is:

topsearch 94v-0

On the other side of the PCB on a sticker I have the codes:

1S REV.7
20140112
U3A 27HM


and also printed onto the PCB is:
M8U_REV07
R00


I also have a multimeter to test components but I am not really sure where to start and believe a donor PCB would be easier if a compatible one is available.

Would I also have to swap over any BIOS/firmware chips to a donor PCB in order for the drive to work correctly?

I found this link but I am unsure of compatibility - Can anyone shed any light on the situation?

I could help with a PCB repair, if it is feasible, but you would need to upload detailed photos or scans of both sides (CCD scanner, not CIS). ISTR that Samsung's USB PCBs have protection components across the 5V input.

I have attached my best guess as to the voltage test points.

ISTR that one person had some trouble with a part that I have identified as "filter/fuse". He was getting a voltage at V2 but nothing at V2f.

Hi,

Thanks a lot for your images,

I have tested the points and they are all 0V except for the 5V_filtered_TVS image which has the one 5V point(which I have marked) and the rest were 0V.

What I did notice however, is my multimeter slipped (whoops!) from Point A I labelled in the picture onto the 5V pads, which caused the blue LED on the board to shine brightly again, I do not have the drive connected to the board at this point however (as I was testing both sides), so I am unsure if it would spin up, or cause damage?

What do you suggest? Any Ideas?

Measure the resistance of the TVS diode on the 200 ohms range. By the sounds of it, it will probably be OK.

Next measure the resistance between the 5V point at the top left and the first 5V test point below it. I expect that it will be open circuit. If so, then reflow the solder pads on each side of the black component. Your misadventure with the multimeter probe suggests that there may be a dry solder joint at point A.
