hello there , last year I had a rom and PCB transplant from one of the great members on here.
We found I needed a preamp and head stack replacement. I am now trying to find a match.
my damaged drive =
date 5 may 2014 H ( it may have been a WD referb)
model 2TB BLACK WD2002FAEX-007BA0,
DCM - HBRCNV2CA
dcx - 100271tb8
I wonder would a preamp/head stack from the drive below work? :
date 15th Jan 2011
model - 2TB BLACK WD2002FAEX-007BA0,
DCM - HARCHV2CA
dcx -200371RB7
Thank you for your help. : )

by details they are not compatible, however comparing ROM can help.
BTW, if you are going to attempt head swap without any prior knowledge/experience, chances of success are nearly zero, sorry.
if data is important contact DR company you can contact "pcimage" on this forum.

hi
I have the ROM file.
Unfortunately, I can´t send the drive out.
Do i have to match the entire dcm? or just the last 5 digits with wd black?
thank you for help

do you have ROM of both drives ? if yes upload them here in compress format.
regarding DCM someone else can give you recommendation, personally i never give importance to DCM.
upload the rom and i can compare it for you, again if you don't have experience and tools, am afraid your efforts will not bring any positive outcome.
your data your choice.

I do not have the donor drive yet.
i have uploaded the rom file
Maybe someone on here can look at my rom and sell me a drive that has the preamp/headstack I need? or tell me what to look out for?
I can get the tools to remove the preamp and head safely. I also have a dust free hepa filtered area.
just a thought.

I don't see why they would be incompatible...

It's true, they look fine to me too.
But the compatibility is the least of the issues when dealing with head swaps.

Personally i will not swap blindly heads from a 3 years date difference donor, that is point of concern. As already mentioned comparing ROM can help.

Swapped a few WD heads over 13 years, but can't remember rom has ever been a concern.
I guess you are refering to head map, which might be a concern when swapping heads in non-full models, but this model has all 8 heads installed, so it can't be a problem.
However changing heads in a 8 head drive may come up with some surprises...

i respect and admire you experience.
i was referring to DIT not head map, am aware head map is not an issue with the given donor details.

hello, just to add
the damaged drive , i believe, was a refurbished drive sent to me from Western digital
so that may account for the date being 2014.
It is likely an older drive, repaired, and then sent to me as a replacement from an RMA.
thanks for all your replies btw. : )

i was referring to DIT not head map
what does DIT stand for?
BTW, i used donor MHAs anybody would declare as incompatible (different preamp head map, different head type) with success in several cases.
