Lorex SG19LD804-161 Surveillance System Files

August 19th, 2015, 14:14

I have a drive from a Lorex SG19LD804-161 Surveillance system in. The drive is part of a forensic investigation so I cannot play the videos on the subject Lorex. As usual with these systems the videos are run via codecs so the files are fragmented to say the least. I have found another Lorex system for $450 which I can buy at a push, but has anyone had luck with decoding these files without the original system. They look like MOV files (not H.264).

According to our experience with Lorex security systems, I'd say it's very unlikely there's a straightforward way to get the recordings as video files. We have always been developing custom software for them.

For the same reason I think that very probably compression is still a proprietary MPEG-4 modification. MOV itself is a container, which can contain MPEG-4 streams as well.

As for buying a working unit, it may be a way to go, if the original drive / image in a (at least nearly) perfect condition.
Anyway, should you decide you need an assistance, I'll be happy to help with this recovery remotely.
