ST1000LM024 engine does not turn the disc

August 20th, 2015, 16:39

Hello everyone.
I have 3 HDD Samsung 2.5" (one patient and two donors) all are model: ST1000LM024 f/w 2BA300001 PCB 100 720 903 04 main chip: 88i9422 NDB2-chip engine: TLS 2605

It turns out that the motor rotates each one only with its own PCB, if I change the plates (PCB) in any configuration the engine does not turn. Has anyone else seen this and know why this happens? Thank you!

if u swap the pcb, u also have to swap the rom chip. It does not start spinning because the donor uses different preamp.

what is the problem with original hard disk ?
why you want to swap pcb ?

The HD patient is head banging, and I need to change the complete actuator, but what makes me curious to know that the motor does not rotate when I change the plates even having changed ROM between the plates.

truth table:

PCB DONOR A X HDD DONOR A = turing motor on
PCB DONOR B X HDD DONOR B = turing motor on
PCB PATIENT X HDD PATIENT = turing motor on

PCB DONOR A X HDD DONOR B = turing motor off
PCB DONOR B X HDD DONOR A = turing motor off
PCB DONOR B X HDD PATIENT = turing motor off
PCB DONOR A X HDD PATIENT = turing motor off
PCB PATIENT X HDD DONOR A = turing motor off
PCB PATIENT X HDD DONOR B = turing motor off

Ok so the problem with the patient is that the heads clicks? makes a clicking sound, changing the PCB won't help, it most certainly be heads/media related, perhaps you can give us more info about the problem?

forgiveness for English is not my native language.
100% sure it's problems head banging. I'm very curious is because the engine does not turn I swapping the positions of PCB's?

Pre amplifier for the heads could be different in each drive/ ROM chip in the PCB holds adaptive unique settings for each drive. that's why.

as pepe told you in the first reply, your drives have different preamps. Thats why it is not turning. Why would you swap PCB if the drive is clicking tho, is beyond me.

I never imagined that the pre amplifier for the heads prevents the disk to turn on , if it is true that the pre amplifier for the heads prevents the engine to turn, I need to get other donors, because the one I have will not serve to exchange the heads. Please confirm me if this is correct?

this is correct, the above disk are not compatible for head swap.
you need compatible donor.

I thank you for confirmation, is now out looking for a compatible donor. Thank you!

Sometimes the terminal output reports the preamp type and whether there is a mismatch.

How to connect a terminal cable on a Samsung drive?

... and it is possible to use different types of preamps...

I'll test a theory today and post here the result: PCB donor B X HDD patient X Head donor B = turing engine (result)
