You didn't tell us the model drive or any details. Looks like a WD desktop of some sort. That top surface is gone but it's possible the others aren't as bad...

Date: 16 Sept 2009

It had a database size about 5GB that needs to be recovered if possible, and just wanted your expert opinion whether it is possible before sending the drive to DR specialist as don't want to waste time and money if this is gone.

mcjack2010 who open HDD I can see Platters have Dust so drive not opened in Clean Room it has chances of Recover if Surface 0 is Good and hopefully your Data is Located On Surface 0 but 5GB file I don't think so without trying you never know this case cost Donors not just one Good Luck ............

I am sorry to tell you that the DB will be lost, the stripe size between platters is small in these drives, if the other surfaces are OK, (don't take the platters out) you might be able to recover smaller files.
