ST2000DM001 new part number

September 25th, 2015, 12:46

I just received a new Seagate ST2000DM001 2TB SATA III hard drive with a part number I cannot find any information on. The part number is 1ER164-302 with firmware CC26 and the drive manufacture date is August 12, 2015. Manufacturing location is Thailand and the the drive was purchased from an authorized Seagate resller in Thailand. I am supposing this is a new part number to this series of drive. Based on the serial number Seagate says there is no firmware update available for it. If anyone has information on this part number I would appreciate it. The drive is still in the protective anti-static wrap. I have seven days to return it. I have heard a lot of horror stories about these drives in the past and the fact there is no information anywhere on this part number is a little disconcerting.

I think the newer builds of these drives should be OK.

But the horror stories revolving mainly around the ST3000DM001 drives built in 2012 will put a lot of people off buying Seagate, period.
