TOSHIBA HDD2K11 NEED HELP IDENTIFYING HEAD ISSUE FOR REPAIR

October 1st, 2015, 9:37

Hi all, i've joined to ask for your help with a friend's laptop hdd.

This drive is bust. Can anyone identify this sound for me? Disk spins up, head seeks but resets, seeks then resets. Finally, the head parks but the platter keeps spinning. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Yes, I understand about clean rooms etc. just curious as to whether a head replacement would potentially work as a repair in this case.

Would this be fixable with a head transfer? Or is there something simpler I could attempt? What causes the head to lose its way? The platter seems to be ok.

Here's a link for the sound it makes when powering it up in an external enclosure.

Thanks for looking!

By the way, the owner's laptop was dropped to produce this problem. Obviously, not on purpose.

Sorry but this is not a DIY, you dealing with a dropped drive, heads swaps are not easy even with experience, also opening the drive in a non clean environment was the worst thing you can have done. Stop spinning the drive, is several good DR labs in your location.
