UNLOCKING ATA PASSWORD FOR IBM DESKSTAR IC35L040

October 5th, 2015, 11:43

Hello guys:

I need to unlock and old IBM DESKSTAR IC35L040AVVA07-0 40GB HDD. Tried ZU but says hdd not supported, also a list of ata master passwords at https://ipv5.wordpress.com/2008/04/14/l ... passwords/ but also no luck. I don´t have access to profesional tools like pc3000 or others.

Thanks in advanced,
oleg.

Hi Moltke:

Tried to put the drive in Safe Mode as your suggestion. I´m confuse with the means of (jumpers in |=). At the attached image i explain you the two jumpers configuration that i tried and the corresponding ZU answer messages.

I suppose that the correct way to put the drive in safe mode is the second case in the image, but Zu says "No password, Bye". MHDD says that Drive is ATA password Locked and also Hdat says Security Status: Enabled,High. HDD is detected in Bios with Primary Master Hard Disk Error.

Any idea?
Thanks,
Oleg.

Hi Moltke:

Great!!! It worked!!!

This is the complete procedure for anyone interested:

1- Put the drive in safe mode (jumpers in |:=)and connect it to pc.
2- Boot from MS-DOS based OS.
3- Execute ZU /P. command (Dot after P is very important jaja). Then ZU says you need power off/on. Do it.
4- Execute ZU /P. command again. Then ZU says Unlocked.
5- Power OFF the PC and restore jumpers to original position.
6- Enjoy your unlocked HDD!!!

Thanks very much,
Oleg.
