Help with read of Grenada with surface scratches

Hello Guys.

I'm working with a Grenada with surface scratch.

There are four heads, H0 is bad and his surface too.

I did all process associated of the head, change, clean, isolations, reconfigure... you know!

But there is a problem, the hdd isn't full reading...

When I start/power on: it read servo marks, it read ID, doesn't click any time, send ready, disk stay spinning don't stop, and terminal is freeze.

The ID is incompelte, I have: Model; PN; Serial: (Size "wrong")...

I already tested other position of map, always is the same behavior and same terminal log.

The terminal output indicates the PCB is not native.

Unless you are shorting read channels while the drive powers on??

I'm still trying to figure out why you're bothering... Grenadas are a nightmare. When I see scratches on platter, I call it quits. Attempting that is a good way to waste your life away. It's a hamster wheel.

Has anyone found a pattern yet to matching donors for the Grenada "DM" drives?
I find even if you get the perfect donor and do a head swap you just end up with servo errors again. I have had a few successes but I find these drives the worst for head swaps that I have come across so far.

However, we have found a way to match donor heads for them, it only takes 4 minutes.

Donor matching is not the issue for us with these drives, but they mostly tend to have media issues (platter scratches) on one or more platter surface which can be troublesome

Yes, it's not compatibility as much as the fact that they just tend to keep killing heads over and over. I don't how many I've done where you can change the heads over and over and each time it'll ID once, barely read data for a couple sectors and then just die again. I really hate these drives.

You should physically remove faulty head(s) and read alive heads first. When good heads are done - then return and play with problem heads.
I used your way early when I can't start drive with absent head. But I didn't use different sets of heads - I just changed faulty head on original set of heads.

This is pretty much the idea. We don't have technique to physically remove the problem head and then replace it, but we bend them, and then bend them back in place.

I know this, but there are process very good to stop the broken heads and stop more scratch...

I have a drive working, it read servo marks, sent me ID full (isn't Id of pcb... please!)

The problem is: when hdd finish starts process, it freeze, I can't use terminal to solve problems and access the S.A... maybe it doesn't read overlay but I'm not sure!
