October 19th, 2015, 14:20

Hi all
Someone can tell me how they can change a head with full different model!

I highly doubt that any of those drives would be compatible for headswap. Sometimes you can get away with a different model if it's within the same family. Or using a larger capacity one that has extra heads. But, this looks pretty far off.

You notice that the drives on the left side haven't even been opened yet.

The first one might be possible if head map is the same. But the second one is a re-certified donor drive chances of that working are very slim because the sticker means nothing on that drive in relation to what is inside now.
Main things you need to match for WD are.
Preamp vendor and revision need something like PC3k to check this (this is the most important or head swap will definatley not work)
PCB number. Sometimes I have seen different PCB's match if MCU is the same.
Head map must match but the donor can have a greater number of heads then the patient drive.
DCM 5th and 6th character.
Firmware match but again I have seen drives with different firmware work.
Mjogs must be close and not greater than 300 difference.

In other words capacity and model number sometimes doesn't matter with a WD head swap. There have been some weird reported Working head swaps out there.

It's look like both couples are okay for head xplant, but before opening donors - tested heads to be sure that they are working.

In the first picture, either drives were opened.. I see a PCB over them. Maybe it was a PCB swap only.

I agree.
I have done a gazillion of such head swaps, and assuming head map is compatible, it should work.
