Is Each WD Oxford Encryption Unique

Or is it possible to use a matching USB Bridge board to decrypt the data? PC-3000 will not see this type of encryption.

Each drive has a unique key, but it's not stored on the bridge at all I don't think. I believe it's stored in the SA and usually in a key sector within the HPA.

Actually, I do believe that some Oxford based controllers store the unique key on the bridge, making recovery without the original bridge much more complex.

This is what I understand. Looks like a little hacking is in order although not sure how successful it will be. For anyone that has not seen this paper, here is some information on WD Encryption.

There are several variants of Oxford bridge encryption. Some store the key on the bridge, some not.
In any case, recovery is possible, even when original bridge is missing.

Any pointers? I see that the Oxford chip leaks the key to RAM when you enter in a new key. Any ideas how to get to this?

Forgot to say, I am working with a clone of the original drive after head failure, so I presume the key will not be uploaded into the RAM. I basically need to decrypt the drive on the fly externally.

Did you look for Oxford encryption key at the end of the drive?
If there is no such key and you're sure you've read this part of the drive without errors, then it encrypts using the bridge.
If you don't have the original bridge, then recovery is still possible, but more complex.

Sir ,
Why Not Put The Original PCB And Clone Patient Using USB Interface Only .Possible Sometimes [ plus encryption will not be a issue ] .

Its funny how clients lose Oxford bridges, then they get 2 prices for recovery.
One without native bride and one with - suddenly the bridge is not so lost any more

Same with original PCB for hard drives, they strenuously deny that it's been changed until told it will cost a lot more if they can't produce the original PCB. Then miraculously they suddenly remember that their "PC expert friend" may have changed it and they still have it!
