USB to SATA add-ons for Hard Disks do they work?

November 29th, 2015, 15:56

To stretch the life of my motherboard which has only two SATA ports
(three needed for a DVD to run clone disk and two SATA drives) I've looked at some of those pig tail add-ons to use a USB2 port.

Some have software (more expensive) and some just show the device with a power supply and some cords etc.

Has anyone at HDDG actually used one?

The best recommendation I found was for the Apricorn ASW-USB3-25 USB3.0 to SATA Adapter which has a disk.

Since moving to Win7 a Startech PCI add-in card does not get recognized by the OS and I'm looking for other options which do not involve reinstalling the operating system and figuring out how to access Raid.

Just one follow up. Will the adapter then show my SATA drive or DVD/CD on the post screen and be recognized by the old Norton Ghost clone program? I rely on this exclusively for backup.

Thanks for answering. Such a device sounds too iffy to take a chance on.
I appreciate the advice.
