Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hey guys, this HITACHI hdd has a dead PCB.
Later at lab I'll try to dump ROM via MRT, but meanwhile I'd like to know how much would I spend on a PCB for this drive.
MLC: JPC3EA
FW: 3EA
Disk is from April 2010.
The pcb sticker shows: 0A72937 | BA3321B | M6H012 | D73A
What kind of requirements does the donnor PCB needs to fill ?
Thanks.

model, first 2 lines from sticker

This ones right ?
Donor pcb must be from a disk with the same size also correct ?

This is the pcb I will buy, all the numbers match, however this pcb is from a hdd with 320GB capacity and not 1 TB.

Donor pcb is compatible.

I'll order it then.
I've also tested the diodes, they were not showing correct values, so I removed them and attemped to power on the disk via MRT but without sucess.
I assume that someone without ultra experience in electronics wont be able to check anything more then diodes on a disk pcb right ?
What should I test after the diodes ?

You can perform some basic measurements.
I would start by testing the 0.1 ohm resistors adjacent to the TVS diodes.
Next I would check the Vcore, Vio and -5V test points.

Thank you frank for your help, Im gonna check it out as soon im back at lab

all measures are correct, I'll order the freaking PCB and get on with it.

If the 0.1 ohm resistors are intact, and if either of the TVS diodes were shorted, then the drive should have shut down your PSU.
If "all measures are correct", then could it be that PUIS is enabled? If so, then a tool such as HDAT2 will allow you to disable PUIS.
BTW, the NVRAM checksum appears to be correct.
- Code:
C:\>xorchksm -16 nv-ram.nvr
nv-ram.nvr: XOR16 checksum = 0x0000

PUIS is not enabled, already checked :/
