Only 1TB of 2TB WD Green drive available

January 31st, 2016, 12:20

Hi Everybody,

I've been having problems for a while now with my Western Digital Green 2TB (WD20EARX) drive.

I used to use it together with 3 other identical disks in a synoogy NAS. The NAS and other 3 drives have been sold for a while. The fourth disk I use now and then for temporary storage.

Problem: For a while now it shows as 1TB. I don't know exactly what triggered it. Up to now I just used 1TB but now need 2TB.

On my pc the disk sits in a HDD dock and this is what I see in disk management:

on a second PC in the bios it also shows '1000GB' and on a synology NAS it also shows 931GB.

The drive doesn't show any visible/hearable/performance/smart problems. It is out of warranty.

Any idea what caused it of what the sollution could be?

Thanks in advance for any advice

By the time this topic was aproved it was solved uzing info found in other threads.
I used HDAT2 to disable HPA.

It's now in my new nas accompanied by a brother building a raid 1.
