I do not have a Synology SHR to recover at the moment but just asking the question as I am sure we will start to get these soon. Has anyone had any experience in rebuilding one externally from the box? Looking at the write up it looks like Synologys version of the Drobo?

We have reverse-engineered BeyondRAID few years ago and have been recovering Drobo units since then.
SHR is a vendor's extension of an older technology, done for the users' convenience. Its basis is classic, tested and stable, so it is possible to recover data in case of failure.
Should anyone here be looking for assistance with a Synology Hybrid RAID recovery, please feel free to contact me, we'll be happy to help remotely.
The same goes for Drobo recoveries.
