Recovery problem for a Data Rescue formatted HardDrive

March 1st, 2016, 16:59

Hi Guys, I am not professional in data recovery and that is the reason I came here.

I have a Hitachi 250GB portable drive. It stored all my data for the past 10 years. It should be a NTFS file system.

The other day I happened to delete 3 program files in my Macbook and I tried to get my program files back. I googled online and
it seemed that the software "Data Rescue " is the correction way to go. So I downloaded it, but it required a booting drive. So I plugged in my Hitachi drive and nightmare happened. The "Data Rescue" formatted my drive without warning me(you normally get very noticeable warning on windows before formatting).

I tried to get my data back but it didnt work out. I used DataRecovery to scan the drive but the file structures are not there, you can only get categorized folders like PNG folder, Jpeg folder, and the file names are just random strings. I contacted OnTrack recovery company and they did an evaluation on the drive, the report is almost the same I can get by myself.

I never write any data into the drive after that stupid format. So I wonder if there is anyone can help me here and if I can get my data back I am willing to pay 1000 bucks. Thank you! My email: aniu.forever@gmail.com

You mention both NTFS and Macbook, is this a internal drive from a MAC ?
Maybe fs is not supported by the program you used. My advise is:
Install R-Studio to a working computer, connect you Hitachi drive and make a scan.
R-studio you find @ r-tt.com

The portable drive(Hitachi) was used on windows for the past 10 years, the formatting of the Hitachi drive happened on Macbook. So I guess this is the tricky part.

I could help. I am very familiar with NTFS. I even wrote some software which could scan drive for NTFS structures and recover data, but if case is difficult it's better to work manually. I had couple cases where no one software can help, but manually I recovered clients data.
