Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi,
now the second harddrive ist destroyed by EaseUS PartitionMaster; (80 GB, IBM Deskstar S/N A4C2AGLA).
As the first HD, it was recognized in the BIOS, and in XP: new hardware found.
The first action with PartitionMaster was wiping the HD.
After wiping and message (free told) ´All well and done´ the PartitionMaster tried the new access to read the data in fresh again, the access did not happen, after more than half a minute trieing.
The second HD - now the IBM - I did the Recovery procedure, until only looking, what was found and then closing this Recovery. WITH this - and still opened window of the PartitionMaster - here the HD was gone in the list and from windows too.
At new BOOT the HD was gone in the BIOS, means, the BIOS did not recognize, access it anymore.
question:
did I have only damage-going HDs or could there be something with the board, or perhaps with the DVD-Writer as second slave, at the second master; always.
(In other PC the BIOS the HDs not finding: the same.)
I am curious . . .

Sorry,
it cannot be the board or the DVD as (second) slave:
before always another HD was running (80GB), but not doing these things there with PartitionMaster EaseUS.
Many thanks for helps.

Sorry, propably still an important point:
the XP runs with FAT32 and the destroyed HDDs have been NTFS (file system).

more exact:
so I did the operations with PartitionMaster BEFORE partitioning - and formatting - to NTFS.
I am thinking about this as the source of this problems.
But this already does not help.
I do need EXACT knowledge, because my hardware-dealer is very angry about these 2 destroyed HDDs.
And the other 2 which have not been recognized in BIOS seems to be from my PC - for him -, because they are found with his PC, but not in BIOS, because there is no BIOS, so just in - what-ever - Windows.
(But these then cannot be destroyed by me, Uuuuhhhh, sorry, I have to fear: he is setting me up.)
