Data Recovery companie steps

March 29th, 2016, 21:22

At the stage of analyzing the Hard Drive, the Data Recovery company only verifies the problems on the device or they also need to see or have access to the files to see if it will be possible to recover? Or that part is only on recovery phase, after the approval of service?

Send the drive to a DR firm and you'll find out

I'm afraid they also need to see if it'll be possible to recover.

When you have a problem with your CAR , you will take it to the mechanic telling him:

Look i have a strange issue with my car, Dashboard showing me: CHECK ENGINE indicator

Now, it could be:

A) false alarm, short somewhere
- (some idiots do not take it seriesly)

B) Beginning of engine problem

-Pro. mechanic with Pro. tools WILL DIAGNOSE and see where the hell is the problem, Not fixing it ofcourse,
otherwise there will be no such place for (cost of LIVING/EXPENSES etc.)

@ the end, we do not see if we are able to fix it, but how much we will waste on it, TIME + # of DONORS

To be fair, there are a number of cases where the drive is essentially "fixed" before the quote is given. For example the drive might come in with obvious firmware issues which must be fixed before you can even properly test if the read/write heads are any good. So it might be nearly operable by the time it's evaluated. However we generally always backup the original SA so we can put it back to original condition should the quote be declined.

However, actually imaging the data is usually only performed after the quote is approved so as to not waste equipment time (unless you catch us during a slow time and we just let in run because there's no other cases waiting to be imaged). So it's usually not possible to know if a specific file is "recoverable" until it's actually done as there's really no way to know if it might have bad sectors.

Depends on the lab.
