SEAGATE ST32LT007-9ZV142-034 FW:0005DEM1 TRANSLATOR ISSUE

March 31st, 2016, 1:52

Hello all,
I have the above drive which has funny issue.
It detect properly. Both the heads read properly till the last sectors but in patches.
It does not read initial sectors
for Example
Then it reads sectors from 119382 to 326879
It does not read 326880 to 531903
Again it reads from 531904 to 739583
Similarly these patches are repeated
Attempt to Regenerate Translator fail
Any take experts.

Thanks

what is the resistance for both heads in terminal?
what tools you have for imaging ?
can you image by selective head ?

Can u view the sectors 326880 to 531903 in Sector edit option ?
its all depend on which tool you are working..
If you can check heads then its lot more easy..

Build head map
Try read each head
I think the problem is 1 head doesn't read (head 0)

Not a translator problem.
As previously said bad sectors / weak heads.

+1

build a head map and you will find out which head is culprit.

I think the problem is 1 head doesn't read (head 0)

As updated earlier it both the heads HD0 And HD1 read perfectly at 50 % location and at balance 50 % location they don't read. So i am not doubting the heads.

As previously said bad sectors / weak heads.

The non reading area is in a fixed pattern so i doubt that it can be due bad sectors .

Are you saying that you read with each head separately (the other one disabled), and reads only 50%?
ROb wrote:The non reading area is in a fixed pattern

Is it on the entire drive or just at the beginning?

Screenshots showing sectors being read
Those sectors which are not read are actually read when one reads when you "Read from Active PC-3000 Utility"
That is why i am doubting in Translator
i am missing something somewhere

Case solved
It turned out to be weak Heads. ( Funny but True )
I was not doubting heads because they were working perfectly in 50% area

It looks like bad head(s).
Drive has 4096 sector size so you have build head map in Data Extractor based on logical sector size and define bad head.
