finger touch on the platter!

April 3rd, 2016, 2:47

Hi folks,,

I recieved external HDD 500 GB WD5000BMVV-11GNWS0, it's opned by someone and he made farther damage on the platter by finger touch.
the HDD need to make head swap, I have identical HDD drive to do head swap, but before I make that,
How I can remove finger touch from the platter without leave any effect on it? in order to protect new head from damage

note that: I make experiment to use alcohole pure 96% on other HDD, but it's leave some "Bubbles" on the platter

Well,
There DR Guys Here will Not share Such Secrets ,Though i Am Aware of Few Things .First of All this is My Observation .

1 : Your Head And Platter Metallic Base Tool Is Dirty ,Clean The Damn This .To Do That Take a Lint Free Cloth ,There Are Many Type of Lint Free Cloths Some Of Them Absorb Liquids "Use One Like That " ,Spray Alcohol On It 99.9% Medical Grade And Clean Your Laminaar Flow Bench And Also This Tool .

2 : Now Comming To Your Current Question .This Platter Looks Bad But Try Cleaning With a Sterile Cleaning Pad With Alcohol Already in It .Or Take a Very Fine Brush Under Just Less then 1 CM Dip It In 99.9% Alcohol And Clean From Center To Edge Making sure The Liquid Goes Towards The Edge .

PS : i am Aware of 5 Chemicals Used for this But My Experience is Not Upto Mark in this Yet But By Allahs Grace Would Be Soon .

Acetone and a cleanroom wipe works well. Even 99.9% pure IPA leaves streaks on the platter, in my experience.

I'll try your recommandation on other HDD to see the result before make this on the patient HDD.
But can I use cotton bud instead of a Sterile Cleaning Pad OR two of them the same!
