samsung motor does not spin after head replacement.

April 7th, 2016, 2:22

Hi,
I understand that samsung HDD required to replacement identical head from donor drive that has
Forth character in the alphabetic code printed on the label at the rear side od the drive should match.

I had changed a head with different character due to unable to find the exact donor drive.
My head drive's Fourth letter is "A" ( If anyone has it, please pm me.)

Does anyone has success by modifying anything to let other character read as well?

Pre amp is incompatible if a Samsung doesn't spin up after a head swap.

Can you start by telling us the model of the drive or a photo so we can help you more.

Now I understand what do you mean by rear, although I never bothered with this label, but now I don't understand why would you need an "A" on the fourth char (you don't have it on the original (patient) drive)
BTW, can you post the terminal log ?

According to the above link says required 4th char.

According to the above link says required 4th char.

I can't find it and definitely not gonna read the entire article now, but my guess is, you mixing things up.
I'm almost positive that the fourth char. you have read about is for WD HDD's HSA replacement (fourth DCM char.)
terryhoho wrote:How do I view the terminal log?

you'll need a TTL cable for that (like this for example)

No, the article definitely refers to Samsung.

Forth character in the alphabetic code printed on the label at the rear side od the drive should match

However, the article was published in 2006, so things may have changed a lot since then.

As for WD ...

In the alphabetic DCM code the sixth (and quite desirably the fifth) characters must be identical
