WD Ultra Passport - Won't Mount

July 28th, 2016, 21:33

2TB drive shows up as My Passport 0820, won't mount. Windows detects the drive adds drivers successfully, but nothing ever shows up. Tried with OS X and Ubuntu, no dice.

Drive is password protected, tried to update firmware but action fails as well.

I would try to solder sata connection (or install sata board) and check if drive has not slow responding problem.

I read conflicting information about soldering the board and it's not my drive so I'm being extra cautious.

After some tinkering I can now get the drive to unlock every time, but the file drive itself doesn't mount, I can windows explorer getting just to the very end...then eventually it times out.

Reading up on everything appears the "slow fix" would work, but I'm having trouble unlocking the drive under ubuntu, tried wine to get the hddunlock app or wd utilities to run but haven't had much success with this. I'm getting close to throwing in the towel so any last suggestions are definitely appreciated OR if someone wants to help me remotely I can compensate you for your time. Just PM me. I'm also physically in the Los Angeles area if you're around, lmk.
