Seagate 7200.12 st31000528AS

August 11th, 2016, 18:35

A have problems with 1TB 7200.12 board 100535537 REV A, Firmware CC38.

It stopped being recognized by OS (Win7). BIOS is detecting it. No clicks, no strange sound, nothing. Spins up and keeps spinning.

I put a fight to access terminal with usb-serial-ttl:
first attempt stucked on
Code:
Rst 0x20M
(P) SATA Reset

no reaction to ctrl-z. Tried this procedure several times.

Second way was by short circuiting pins (found correct for my board). Got as far as:
Code:
Rst 0x20M
No HOST FIS-ReadyStatusFlags 2002A185

no reaction for ctrl-z what so ever.

Any ideas? usb-serial seems to work (3.3V) loopback correct.

Thanks

I suggest backing up modules 28, 35 and 93, to start. Better yet, back them all up, before going forward.

What tools do I need to backup modules? Is there another way to get access to such procedures? Till now I was aware only of prompt I cannot get access to - no reponse on ctrl-z.

Another strange thing I managed to get same model and rev drive, nearly identical but working. I tried to access prompt same way, so connect rx/tx got Rst.... but I stucked on same level, no response to ctrl-z no prompt no.

I would even ask what are those modules, but I think I will use search first ;-)

I think I have no way to backup whatever modules are as my access is limited. No access to prompt, drive not seen by OS. Is there other solution to access drive to do this backup as you mention it? I have no specialistic tools nor software.

Read and Write F3 Arch Sys files with HyperTerminal :

Thats my point. I cannot enter F3 T prompt not even ASCII diag message. I am stuck on reset info.

as the instructions says:
Now power on your drive, wait for it to initialize and press CTRL+Z. You should see a prompt like this...

I do press crtl-Z, I see (P) Reset but nothing else...

One more thing my ttl adapter can be switched between 3,3V and 5V. no difference at all...

AIUI, the drive should spin down after "No HOST FIS-ReadyStatusFlags 2002A185". Is that what happens?

I tried another ttl adapter. No change at all. Cannot get prompt on bad or good drive... any idea?
