Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts
Hi, I have received a WD my passport drive today for recovery. It is giving re-initialise error. Now I wanted to convert WD USB to SATA adapter. WD PCB number is 2060-771814-001. I got a matching SATA PCB 771820 (http://www.hddoracle.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1080).
I found that there are two 8 pin chips in patient HDD U12 & U14 ( Photo attached) but donor PCB has got only one 8 pin U12 chip.
Before doing the ROM transplantation I kindly request data recovery experts comment on this...!!!:-)
U12 is the chip you need, just transfer the content of it into donor sata pcb. If you have PC3000 or MRT tools (and if patient pcb is still alive) you can copy rom content via serial connection (without using soldering station or eprom programmer) and then write it into donor sata pcb. Hi Micahel... Thank you.. The patient PCB is still alive. As you suggested, I have tried connecting MRT samsung adapter but MRT software not detecting serial connection(Screenshot attached).
Also I tried transplanting only U12 chip to SATA donor PCB 771820, but motor doesn't started..
Is important to wait 1 or 2 minutes since you plug the usb cable to your computer usb port, then click 'auto check' in MRT (if you do it correctly you'll see appearing the 'set baud rate 115200') on screen.
Hi Michael, Serial Connection is Okay now. I have taken ROM backup and tried "Self test Environemnt feature" but getting an error "01.rpm file not found".
Please see the screenshots and kindly advice me to clear this case..
