Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I have a 500GB HGST drive, model HTS545050A7E362 Z5K500-500 that is not responding in the DDI.
It gives me error PHY=3.
I'm guessing this is a firmware level issue? If so, any chance and PCB swap could resolve this?
I've attached a photo of the DDI screen.
Any advise is appreciated. Thanks guys.

DDI can't help you if its FW issue, you'll need something like PC3K

You'll need pc3k or similar to diagnose what the actual issue is.

Is the drive clicking or making unusual noises? Yeah, like the others said, not much you can do to troubleshoot it properly with a DDI.

Not clicking and ready (stays spinning) then probably firmware corruption (bad/corrupt glist). But (not sure if it will help or not), you can try the relatively new "Hitachi Techno-On" feature in DDI (F9, I believe). If this doesn't help, it will need something beyond DDI.

I will try that. Thanks!
