Seagate ST500DM002 How to Recover?

September 22nd, 2016, 4:16

Good morning,
I recently discovered this community and I was able to discover many interesting things, but unfortunately I ask help for a problem that I came across.

Model: ST500DM002
S/N: Z3TA1ZZC
Firmware: KC45

This hard drive I used for the operating system of the computer and to store some labor data. While I was using it, suddenly the screen went black and the writing appeared to insert media to do the Boot System.

I tried to connect the HDD to other connectors on the computer and then connect it to another computer, but nothing .. is not seen by the BIOS, and does not turn on even rotation.
I tried to see if the PCB shows clear signs of burning, as we see in this guide: http://hddrepairing.com/downloads_n_vid ... airing.pdf
The Hard Disk does not have burn marks, then I have searched the internet and I saw that the Barracuda are suffering from BUSY bug, with relevant guides on how to fix it:

Do you think this starch could be a similar problem?
Because my own drive does not come on, you feel that the dishes do not turn ... if I bought a TTL RS232 board, I could still communicate with the HDD?

I ask you a hand to my problem and I apologize for my English!

Ciao,

Hello,
If platters do not rotate, very likely PCB is faulty.
With the TTL RS232 interface you cannot communicate via serial with your hdd if the pcb is fried, if pcb is faulty as it seems then you should change it with a good working donor, then replace donor ROM with original one .
If you need help let me know, bye.

P.S.
Non provare a fare tu questo lavoro se non l'hai mai fatto o non ti senti sicuro, se dovessi danneggiare la ROM non sarà più possibile recuperare i dati.

P.S.
Do not try to make this work if you've never done it before or if you do not feel safe, if you were to damage the ROM then you will not be able to retrieve your data anymore.

A PCB swap plus firmware transfer should cost no more than US$50.

If you can upload a detailed photo of the component side of your PCB, I could help you to test it.

Hi everyone, thanks for your interest!

So I re dismantled the HDD to make you a bit 'of photos, but in them I noticed a component that actually could be dead ... And if I remember correctly that component should be part of the power circuit, right?
