Seagate ST310211A swap pcb

November 1st, 2016, 15:39

Hi,

I have a broken pcb on HDD Seagate ST310211A U5 10GB.
Configuration level 2AAABA
Configuration code YMH05
F/W 3.39

And I have one piece of donor HDD, the same type, but

Configuration level is 2EAABA
Configuration code is YDJ02
and F/W is 3.05

PCB ID are both 100112537 REV A

Questions are : Is it possible to swap the pcb and what sould I do ? Should I resolder some ic ? And which one ? Or should I buy the same F/W pcb ?

You could move the ROM chip, but it's not an easy one to move. This is before they were using the nice little 8 pin ones, and it'll be a lot harder to transfer. The easiest option would certainly be to buy a PCB with the correct firmware version.
