Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Dear friends
This Seagate hard disk is precisely 10 year old & very rare . Its pcb is shorted and when powered pc does not start.
I am not getting donor pcb so the only option is to carefully repair patient pcb.
I think one of the diode is opened .
Can someone pls. help me to diagnose pcb
Thank you
Family -- Barracuda 7200.9 ( first time I have seen 500GB hard disk (classic non F3) in this family 7200.9)
Hard disk model - ST3500841AS
FW -3.AGE
PCB rev. - 100383395 Rev. B

Not that rare:

If you just need data back you can likely just remove the shorted one and copy the data out using a clean power supply. I've circled what they look like in red here:

Which diode and what is the reading you are getting in both directions? Is it getting hot? Most likely can be removed.

Dear Team
Thank You so much for all the help.
Data-medics diagnostics was precisely right. One diode which he has marked was short . I removed that diode and disk got normal detection.
100 % data from disk was recovered successfully.
Thanks again.
cdma-India -- I have noted your no. Pls. PM your email id and address , I will contact you for spares.

Awesome dude! It is nice when you run into those kind of situations. Makes life easier sometimes than dealing with these "problem children" for hard drives we occasionally get.
