WD5000AAKB-00YSA0

Hello!
I have this failed WD 500GB PATA drive, which I'm trying to recover data from:

MDL: WD5000AAKB-00YSA0
DATE: 23 APR 2008
DCM: HHRNHT2CHB
PCB: 2061-701508-900 AD XT 4N07 MLYU 7 0003410 8 413
F/W: 12.01C02

It shows on the start up screen, but then pauses the loading process with a hard disk error. Resuming it with F1 loads Windows, but the drive isn't visible in it. Using a boot CD I can initialize the drive in Victoria and view its SMART status, which is totally fine, but when I try to run a surface scan I only get defects.
fzabkar at hddoracle recommended me, as a first step, to dump the drive's ROM and modules using the demo versions of WDR or WDMarvel, which I did:
wdmarvel.zip
(3.58 MiB) Downloaded 518 times

I also checked checked the ROM's integrity with fzabkar's tool and it's OK.
Can anyone help me analyze the modules?

PS: Unfortunately, I cannot continue at hddoracle as my posts aren't getting approved (Staff on vacation?), so I moved here.

I don't understand why would you need the ROM and MODs to be analyzed,
Its sounds more like bad sectors/media damage/weak or bad heads rather than a FW problem

Agree, 99.9% nothing to do with PCB.

Does the drive came from a external enclosure? Try to clone the drive with DDRescue to a known healthy drive, and work from there.

I am pretty new to this and was just following a suggestion. Anyway, if it's physical damage shouldn't it show up in SMART?
Is there a way to verify that it's really bad sectors/media damage/weak or bad heads?

No, it was used as an internal drive.

Bad sectors you should see in DDRescue....othewise you will need more expensive Tools & knowledge.
Try ddrescue...if that don't work, take the drive to a DR Company.

OK, I'll try DDRescue. Thanks for the tip.

There are some hidden SMART attributes (in 24.MOD) which look bad, but I don't know if these are significant.

No corruption in the rest of the modules?

Oh and btw, there are no clicking etc sounds pointing to a mechanical error while the drive is on. It spins up and keeps quietly spinning as it did while it was fully operational.
