Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

I have a WD Mybook Essential external drive with a bad USB/SATA bridge - part number 4061-705089-001 Rev 07P. This drive was from a few years back. Unfortunately, I didn't know WD did automatic hardware encryption on this drive, otherwise I would have gotten rid of that as soon as I found out.
I've tried the whole lot of data recovery software with no luck.
So, now I'm stuck looking for an exact copy of the above part number to try and salvage the data.
Anyone have one they no longer use that they'd be willing to part with?
Thanks in advance!

Upload a photo of your PCB. Sometimes there is a simple DIY fix.

I think he does need it, at least in North America. Perhaps you are thinking "Elements" when you read "Essentials."

This should work for the OP:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Control-Board-W ... 9fcl36aeKQOr you could head over to Jono in Atlanta (
www.datasaversllc.com) and have him decrypt using PC-3000. He probably won't charge too much if there's nothing else wrong with the drive.

Sorry for the slow upload, the holiday is getting to me!
@data medics, I did call those guys and they were helpful - but unfortunately they have flat rate pricing which is still kind of high.
They did mention they thought I could use any version of the board, provided it has the same Symwave chip. Any thoughts? I've seen some Rev AB and Rev AG on Ebay/Amazon I could try
Now is the 4060-705089-001 just the USB 2.0 version of what I have?
Thanks guys

You could try imaging the drive then decrypting the image using
reallymine.

@khans011, if you have a multimeter, measure the Vio, Vcore and +5V test points.
